HALLOWEEN
Why?
Integrating literacy and math activities into familiar projects, such as carving a pumpkin, help young children use previous skills and knowledge to acquire new knowledge. Make any family time into a learning opportunity!
What to do:
1. When you carve your pumpkin at home take out the seeds! Use them as counters for math activities. Get a mat to work with to enjoy the slime. Practice all different levels of counting. Count to 10, 20, 30 or even more. Add a few seeds together to find what you have in total. Wash the seeds off and bake them. As you put them on the baking sheet, put them into groups of ten. Count each group a few times to make sure you counted correctly.
2. Carve or draw letters or words onto your pumpkin! If you're just learning your letters, choose a special letter and carve or write it into your pumpkin. Draw a picture of something on your pumpkin of something that starts with that letter.
Write your name on the pumpkin. Make sure you get each letter correct.
Choose a scary animal to draw on your pumpkin...maybe a scary cat. Sound out the word and carve it into your pumpkin.
